What is Radium Kagaya International Hotel Taipei like?

Radium Kagaya International Hotel Taipei is at No. 236, Guangming Road, Beitou District, Taipei. It's a joint venture between Radium Life Tech and the Japanese hot spring inn Kagaya, and opened in December 2010. The hotel faces Beitou Park, right opposite the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, and next to the site of Tengu-an (天狗庵), Taiwan's first hot spring inn, opened in 1896.

The exterior is modeled on Japanese sukiya architecture, and inside are crafts from the Noto Peninsula such as Kutani ware, Wajima lacquer, gold leaf and Kaga Yuzen. The hotel has 89 rooms of 13–32 ping, each with a marble hot spring bath; some room types have tatami and futon bedding, others Western-style beds.

The hot spring facilities are on three floors: the 4th-floor white-sulfur public baths (the men's and women's baths swap daily), private baths for two on the 5th floor, and a Beitou stone and cypress sauna on the 7th. Tenshou on the 3rd floor serves a breakfast buffet and kaiseki meals, and stay plans come with breakfast, or with breakfast and dinner.

✓ A good fit if

  • Travelers who want a hot spring soak in their room: every room has a marble hot spring bath, and the Semi-Open Hot Spring Executive Suites and Grand Special Suites also have a semi-open-air bath.
  • Travelers who want Japanese kaiseki: Tenshou on the 3rd floor serves kaiseki at lunch and dinner (reservations required), and you can book a plan that includes breakfast and dinner.
  • Families with children or older relatives: a third guest 100 cm or shorter stays free, and you can borrow a baby cot, baby bathtub and bottle sterilizer; the duplex suites sleep up to 6.
  • Travelers heading to Yangmingshan, Tamsui or the North Coast: from Beitou, none of these routes need to pass through central Taipei.

✕ Consider another hotel if

  • Your plans center on central Taipei and you'll be going in and out of downtown every day: the one-way drive from Beitou is longer, so consider Hotel Metropolitan Premier Taipei on Section 3 of Nanjing East Road, near MRT Nanjing Fuxing Station. — try Hotel Metropolitan Premier Taipei
  • You don't plan to use the hot springs and mainly want to shop in Xinyi: staying in Beitou you won't use the hot spring facilities, so consider Grand Hyatt Taipei in Xinyi. — try Grand Hyatt Taipei

Highlights

Why stay at Radium Kagaya International Hotel Taipei? Three highlights

01Private Hot Spring

Private baths for two on the 5th floor

The private baths on the 5th floor are named after the old Japanese month names, with baths in three styles: ceramic, cypress and natural terrazzo. They come in three sizes: Senshan (森山, 4 ping), Tingquan (聽泉, 6 ping) and Guanyun (觀雲, 8 ping). Each session is 90 minutes, available 09:00–23:00 by reservation.

Prices are for two: NT$2,000–2,800 on weekdays and NT$2,300–3,000 on holidays (plus 10%), and each additional guest from the third is NT$800 plus 10%. No food or drink is allowed in the baths, and reservations are held for 10 minutes.

02Tenshou

Kaiseki at Tenshou on the 3rd floor

Tenshou is on the 3rd floor, with 130 seats including 5 private rooms (6–18 people). Breakfast is a buffet, 07:00–10:00 (last entry 09:00), and it gets busy after 08:30 on weekends; lunch (11:30–14:00) and dinner (17:30–21:30) are kaiseki meals.

The kaiseki uses seasonal Japanese and Taiwanese ingredients, and the menu changes with the seasons. Because ingredients are prepared in advance, it's by reservation only. Hotel guests get 10% off when adding lunch or dinner.

03Craft Gallery & Beitou Park

The craft gallery and the Beitou Park area

The hotel has its own gallery displaying crafts from the Noto Peninsula such as Kutani ware and Wajima lacquer, gold leaf and Kaga Yuzen. The exterior is modeled on sukiya architecture and faces Beitou Park, with the Beitou Hot Spring Museum, Beitou Library and Thermal Valley all nearby.

Jingniangyuan (金娘苑) inside the hotel is open 24 hours, with kimono displayed on a tatami platform beside the indoor garden, and you can take photos. HIYORI Lounge, the café on the 2nd floor, is open 10:00–18:00 and also sells souvenirs.

Rooms

Rooms

Rooms come in two types, Japanese (tatami with futon bedding) and Japanese-Western (Western-style beds), further divided by whether they have a Beitou Park view and a balcony. Every room has a marble hot spring bath, a separate toilet with a bidet, a free minibar, and yukata and zori sandals. The spring water is settled before use, so it has fewer particles and less sulfur smell. Since January 1, 2025, rooms don't provide single-use toiletries.

Access

Location

The hotel is at No. 236, Guangming Road, Beitou District, Taipei, opposite the Beitou Hot Spring Museum. Beitou Park, Beitou Library, Thermal Valley and Longnaitang (瀧乃湯) are all nearby, making for an easy stroll.

Take the MRT Tamsui–Xinyi Line to Beitou Station, change to the Xinbeitou Branch Line, and walk about 5–10 minutes from Exit 1 of Xinbeitou Station. The hotel also runs a free shuttle between the hotel and Exit 1 of Beitou Station (not Xinbeitou Station), up to 8 people per trip, reserved the day before (02-2891-1238).

With a private charter

From Songshan Airport it's about 40 minutes by taxi. From Taoyuan International Airport by public transport, you'd change at Taipei Main Station onto two more MRT lines, so with luggage a private charter straight to the hotel entrance is simpler. Beitou is on the way to Yangmingshan, Tamsui and the North Coast, so the next day you can do Yangmingshan and then Jinshan or Tamsui without going back into the city. Hotel parking is a parking tower with valet service, and 11:00–12:00 is the peak time for retrieving cars, which can mean a 15–30 minute wait; with a private charter on check-out day, you won't have to wait for your car. Your vehicle can simply pick up and drop off at the hotel entrance; guest parking rules are subject to the hotel's latest notice, and please check with the hotel whether they apply to charter vehicles.
