Overview
IHG's hotels in Taiwan are concentrated in Taipei, Taichung, Chiayi, Tainan and Kaohsiung, plus a hot-spring resort in Jinshan on the North Coast and a Hotel Indigo up on Alishan. The brands are positioned quite differently: Regent Taipei is a large five-star hotel with 538 rooms, while Kimpton Da An Hotel is a pet-friendly 129-room boutique hotel tucked into the lanes of the East District.
When planning, think of IHG hotels in two ways: as a city base, or as a one-night stay next to a sight. The Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung hotels work well as bases for several nights, while the Jinshan hot-spring InterContinental and Hotel Indigo Alishan are a change of scene for one night mid-trip. Charter
Most of IHG's city hotels are near MRT stations, and pickups and drop-offs at the hotel entrance mean no hunting for parking. Hotel Indigo Alishan and the Jinshan hot-spring InterContinental are more out of the way and involve transfers if you travel on your own, so a private charter that drives right to the door is the easiest option.
A common way to do Alishan is to spend the night before in Chiayi city (at voco Chiayi, for example), then take the charter up the mountain early the next morning and stay at Hotel Indigo Alishan. On the North Coast, you can fit Yehliu and Jinshan Old Street into the same day and stay at the hot-spring InterContinental that night.
Pets stay free at Kimpton Da An Hotel, and Hotel Indigo Kaohsiung Central Park and voco Chiayi also accept cats and dogs. Fees and restrictions vary by hotel, so check each hotel's page and confirm with the hotel.
voco Chiayi in Chiayi city works well for the night before going up or after coming down. By private charter, it is easy to head up Alishan from Chiayi city, or continue to Tainan and Kaohsiung after coming down.
InterContinental New Taipei Hot Spring is in Jinshan on the North Coast. All 211 rooms have a private soaking tub, and there are also public hot-spring baths and a rooftop infinity pool.
